What to Expect in Your First Few Months
Overview:
Congratulations! You made it into the WeWA/eWrestling.Org. You have shown us something in your application that set you apart from the rest. You are a WeWA Wrestler. At this point you may be asking yourself, “Where do I go from here?” Well, obviously, this school is the immediate answer (Which I strongly recommend you read in its entirety), but your “rookiedom” here stretches far beyond your first few days, or even your first show. There are several mistakes that one makes, both in character and out, that will spell certain doom for you, and your character.
Mistake One:
I was a TWENTY THREE TIME WORLD CHAMPION IN THE (Insert Crappy Fed), I should be world champ here for sure!
This MAY be entirely true. You very well could have been a twenty three (or for that matter twenty four, twenty five, or dare I say, twenty six) time world champion in some shit hole fed nobody cares about. The fact is, if that fed were of the WeWA’s caliber, then you probably wouldn’t have left, now would you. Or perhaps your homeland closed down…which also doesn’t say much about it in comparison to the MECCA of the eWrestling world, WeWA. This is a federation unlike any other you’ve been a part of, and it is not your personal stomp hall, has past experiences may have been. This is a place where no matter how good you are, no matter how often your Role-Play, no matter HOW bad you beat your opponents, and you simply will not be given the world title after only a few matches. Period. I suppose exceptions ARE always possible, but then, this section is about what SHOULD happen in your first few months, not exactly what WILL. The owner and operator of eWrestling.org is somebody who expects more than just great Role-Playing skills from his World Champion. He expects somebody who is active in every facet of the game: Out of Character discussions, blogging/article writing, interaction via instant messenger with the other handlers, and above all, establishing trust. Every possible precaution is taken to ensure that a handler is not awarded the World Championship, who will disappear the next day. Which is why in summation, you very well may be the next Snake Eyes, Obsidian, or Outlaw; but it will take more than a month or two to prove it.
OOC Discussions:
The WeWA is a very close-knit group of friends. We all are there for one another, both in good times and bad. Not participating in the OOC facets of the game, particularly when you are new, will probably not be taken so well by the other handlers. As the old adage says, “You only get one chance to make a first impression”- make yours count. Take a moment to introduce yourself to the handlers, let them know a little bit about you, why you came to WeWA, and just a general message that lets them know you are here to have fun. Every member of WeWA is competitive, but treating your fellow handlers as enemies in your quest to win the World Title will get you nowhere, fast. You may be given a hard time in your first few weeks, being “the new guy”, with some of the higher seniority members taking it upon themselves to “razz” you. Let this serve as an indication that you are well liked. The fact that the members are acknowledging you, and taking time to have fun with your posts is ALWAYS a good sign. Always, ALWAYS remember- if you were not liked, people here would simply ignore you. Genuinely negative posts on the Out of Character board are VERY heavily looked down on- so take all the attention you get, when you are new, as a compliment. We welcome new additions with open arms.
Winning/Losing Matches (AKA- The Push):
Once you’ve joined the fed, you will no doubt Role-Play your butt off in your first few matches. The last thing you want is to start off with three straight losses, right? Maybe… But also maybe not. New characters that make strong first-impressions will often be given an introductory push, (I know I know, most of you know what a push is, but just in case…) or boost in popularity. Handle this cautiously. It is always exciting to get your first push in a new federation, but be warned, do not let it go to your head. If you Role-Play often and well, your character will be rewarded, but the writing staff has their own ways of showing it. Suppose your character is a face (baby face/good guy). You get booked with a veteran heel (bad guy). You both Role-Play well, and in your opinion, maybe a little bit better than him. You expect a pin fall win. This may not be the case. As a new character, in that situation, what may end up happening, is the heel cheats VERY badly to win. You may lose the match, but your character is still made to look very good. On the other hand, you may completely demolish your first few opponents. Pushes are given in many different ways, so just be open to the results of the matches, and be sure not to interpret them only based on the premise of who won and who lost.
Conclusion:
And there you have it! Keep these three basic concepts in mind throughout your first few months, and you should wind up fitting in just fine, both in character and out. Work hard, stay active, and come back anytime you need a refresher. Until then, SEE YOU ON THE BOARDS!
